FAQ’S

What is Phosphorus oxychloride?

Phosphorus oxychloride is an inorganic compound, colorless liquid (at room temperature and pressure) that is used in various industries.

What are the uses of Phosphorus oxychloride?

Phosphorus oxychloride is widely used to introduce phosphoryl groups (-POCl2) into organic molecules, enabling the synthesis of various phosphorus-containing compounds. It can convert alcohols to alkyl chlorides, carboxylic acids to acyl chlorides, and other functional groups with -OH, -SH, or -NH2 to their chlorinated counterparts.

Phosphorus oxychloride is a key ingredient in the manufacture of phosphate esters, which are used in plasticizers, hydraulic fluids, lube oil additives, and flame retardants. It’s a precursor to plasticizers like tricresyl phosphate, which are used in plastics and other materials. It  is used in the production of flame retardants for various applications, including plastics.
